Major mound moves for the Goldeyes
What a week! The Winnipeg Goldeyes said goodbye to two veteran pitchers today with the release of LHP Nick Hernandez and RHP Matt Jackson; also released was RHP Brad Mincey, who joined the team midway through the 2015 campaign. Not sure what the future holds for these two aces, but they'll be missed by fans here in Winnipeg. Also this week, the Fish sold the contract of newly-acquired RHP Nestor Molina to the San Francisco Giants, while closer RHP Jailen Peguero signed with Veracruz (Mexico League). This flurry follows the signings of RHPs Brandon Shimo and Kevin Becker-Menditto on Dec. 17. Shimo split time between the Can-Am and Frontier Leagues last year, while Becker-Menditto spent his rookie season with the Can-Am's Garden State Greys. Expect more moves as the Goldeyes look to mix-up their bullpen.

RedHawks take Game 2...and series...from The Fish (Aug. 15)
Pitcher Tyler Alexander pitched a complete game to power the RedHawks to a 5-3 victory over the Goldeyes, Aug. 15 at Shaw Park. The Fish made it interesting in the ninth, scoring two runs and ALMOST tying it up with an Adam Heisler shot that fell a foot or so short of the fence. Game three goes tomorrow afternoon (Aug. 16). Pictured here are: 1 & 2) Tyler Alexander on the mound; 3) James Boddicker singles in the early going; 4) Charlie Valerio makes the play from the plate; 5) Matt Jackson hurls it; 6) the RedHawks Joe Bonfe clobbers the ball midway through.

Alen's heroics provide Turkey Night triumph over Sioux Falls
It was shaping up to be a Turkey Night Tragedy in Winnipeg. Sioux Falls were riding an impressive pitching performance by Shawn Blackwell, who had held the Fish scoreless for eight innings of ball; The Canaries held on to a two run lead heading into the last inning.
That set the stage for a bottom of the ninth miracle: Sioux Falls kept Blackwell in, which resulted in Casey Haerther getting on first with a beanball. Tillman Pugh singled in Haerther and then Luis Alen took it home with a double shot homer. Final Score, Goldeyes 3, Sioux Falls 2.
Pictured here are: (1 -3) Adam Heisler and Matt Jackson de-shirt Luis Alen; (2) Casey Haerther gets beaned; (4) The Casio Grider Show; (5) The Fish celebrate; (6) Canary Chris Grayson crushes the ball; (7) Shawn Blackwell on the mound. All photos taken by Dan LeMoal at Shaw Park, Winnipeg, Aug. 11.

Savouring the taste of victory
With our Bacon Day pride on the line, some fine pitching by Matt Jackson helped the Goldeyes to deliver a 4-1 win over the Amarillo Thunderheads. Newcomer Tillman Pugh continues to impress as well at the plate and in the outfield (shots taken July 30, Shaw Park, Winnipeg).
