Meet your 2016 American Association Champions!

It's been quite month for the Winnipeg Goldeyes: make the playoffs in the last day of the season, come back from a 2-1 deficit to beat St. Paul, and then they do it again, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Wichita for the championship.

I thought I'd celebrate this win...after all, championship seasons don't come around often...with a special digital card set. This design will be used again, my hope is to do a complete league set in the off-season. Gentlemen, it's a been a pleasure to follow this amazon season!

Abercrombie breaks AA's all-time home run record

It was only a matter of time, and tonight (July 14) Reggie Abercrombie tied and broke the American Association's all-time home run record with his 87 and 88th shots over the wall. The homers helped The Fish to a 6-4 victory over a decimated Sioux City Explorers squad. Coming off a 17-3 loss the previous evening, the Xs made a game of it with two pitchers in their batting rotation (Rob Wort and Jake Kuebler).

Goldeyes boost plate power

The Goldeyes will have Reggievision in 2016: it was announced today that Reggie Abercrombie has officially re-signed with the club. Known for his big personality and having a bat to back it up, Abercrombie has proven to be a fan favourite over the years. On December 1, the Fish also signed Josh Romanski. Back in 2014, Romanski batted .311 for the Gary-Southshore Railcats; 2015 saw Romanski playing in Japan. He's seen as a versatile outfielder with plate power to boot.

Flying Fish (Part 1)

The Battery is back after a post-season hiatus, and what better way to get things rolling than with some roster moves in the Goldeyes Clubhouse. With the Goldeyes eliminated from post-season action, Reggie Abercrombie and Edwin Carl were promptly traded in September to the Atlantic League to help out with the late season runs of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and the Lancaster Barnstormers, respectively. Abercrombie assured fans on social media that he would be back as a Goldeye and true to his word, he was reacquired from Southern Maryland as future considerations for the previous deal. Ditto for Carl...so it was Abercrombie for Abercrombie and Carl for Carl in the type of deal that is typical in indy baseball. But if Carl demonstrates the durability to go along with his obvious pitching ability, he may be one of those AA pitchers that gets another shot at the majors. Time will tell next season. Players of the Week, Aug. 17-23

Sioux Falls RHP Shawn Blackwell is the American Association's Pitcher of the Week, after a stretch that included a complete game shutout of the St. Paul Saints. Meanwhile, Winnipeg's Reggie Abercrombie has been named Player of the Week. Sir Reginald was 15-for-31 (.484) this week with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs during the Goldeyes tour of the Can-Am League.

Carl shuts out Canaries on Country Night

A crowd of 6,056 were on hand to watch Edwin "Carl Senior" Carl pitch a shutout and Reggie Abercrombie pop a two run homer as The Fish country-fried the Canaries 3-0. Miguel Pena also turned in a strong night on the mound for Sioux Falls. Photos taken by Dan LeMoal, Aug. 12, Shaw Park.

What began as a pitching duel between new Goldeyes slinger Edwin Carl and the T-Bones 10-2 Bobby Doran ended in a ninth inning heartbreaker for the Goldeyes. Final Score: T-Bones 2, Fish 1.
